Ranking 12 Best Damage Types In Baldur’s Gate 3

Here is a list of the best damage types in Baldur’s Gate 3, from poison to fire.

There are many ways to hurt people who are against you in Baldur’s Gate 3. You’ll have to fight, with guns, spells, or your bare hands, to save the day (or make it even worse). The amount of damage you do isn’t the only thing that matters in these situations. The kind of damage is another thing to think about.

There are a lot of different ways to do damage, like fire, ice, poison, thunder, mental, and more. All of them are useful, because some enemies are resistant (take half as much damage), immune (take no damage), or even vulnerable (take twice as much damage). Which one is the best?

Poison

It’s always been hard to deal with poison damage in Dungeons & Dragons, and this was mostly the same. Poisoning an enemy is useful because it makes their attacks less effective, but too many animals are resistant or immune to it, so none of them can be hurt by it.

Depending on what race you play as, it’s even easy to gain protection, which is helpful early on when a lot of monster-like enemies can poison you. But it’s hard for you to use this on enemies well.

Slashing And Piercing

If your tool isn’t magical, you shouldn’t keep these types of damage for too long. Too many enemies can’t be hurt by them or are resistant to them. There’s a good chance that your opponent will be immune to magical sword damage even if you do find one.

Some Slashing and Piercing weapons are worth saving, so don’t throw them away because they deal these types of damage. If you do, it will be because of their special features or a different type of damage. Half damage is still damage, after all. Plus, these two aren’t very good at breaking things that are in their way—walls are immune to Slashing and Piercing, so they can’t break through them.

Bludgeoning

Bludgeoning is the best of the standard types of guns. One reason is that it can be used against some enemies. For example, a hammer can easily break skeletons, and it can even work against one of the game’s hardest bosses. Also, not many enemies can avoid it. Still, resistance will happen a lot of the time, so a magical hammer with extra types of damage is still a better choice.

It’s also much better at breaking things when you need to. This means that even if your fighting characters find a nice spear or sword, you should still leave a hammer or maul in their kit in case you need to switch weapons.

Acid

Acid beats the basic weapons because it doesn’t have to worry about defense as much. Acid also helps because it lowers the target’s AC (Armor Class) by two, which makes it easier to hit.

This means that it is smart to take a few Acid Vials with you to use against enemies that are tough to hit. Melf’s Acid Arrow is the most famous spell here. It does a lot of damage when it hits and for a short time after, based on how well the enemy does on a saving throw.

Necrotic

When there are a lot of bad forces to fight, evil powers don’t work very well. A lot of enemies can use this power, but they can also fight it. It also doesn’t help that Necrotic harm can’t hurt anyone.

We still think you should add Chill Touch to your list of cantrips. If the enemy isn’t a bad guy, it should do full damage. It also stops foes from healing, which can be helpful sometimes.

Fire

Fire is hard to understand. Not many people can be hurt by it, and some are even immune to it. Still, some of the most dangerous spells in Doodle Baseball do damage with fire. The only thing they usually do to the target is burn, but the damage is reason enough to think about them.

After all, everyone likes a good Fireball. We strongly advise using fire powers, but there are other ways to fight fiends or Tieflings as well. It immediately stops working on foes that are wet as well.

Do not forget that you can always look at your opponent during a fight to see what defenses, protections, and weaknesses they have.

Psychic

There aren’t many enemies that can take mental damage, but there aren’t many that can’t sustain it either. As for whether it will work or not, it makes a lot of sense. For example, moving armor is resistant because it is just an item that you can affect and hurt.

It’s even not blocked by Mind Flayers, which is pretty cool. That means you can use mental damage on even the toughest enemies without worrying that it will fail. These spells that hurt the mind often have bad side effects as well. For example, Phantasmal Killer makes the target unable to move and weaker in strikes.

Cold

Due to tolerance and protection, cold damage is in a strange spot, like fire damage. However, there is a fun trick: if you wet an enemy, they can be hurt by cold damage even if they normally can’t.

When you mix cold powers with abilities like Create Water, you can choose who is weak to your Ice Storm, for example, no matter who they are.

When you mix cold damage with water, be careful not to make the place slippery. It helps knock enemies out, but it can also happen to your characters!

Lightning

Lightning is also kind of like fire and cold. It has lower resistances and immunitys by default, which is a good thing. The Create Water trick also works here, since enemies that are wet are quickly exposed to Lightning damage.

It also helps that this type of harm can hit some of the toughest minions in Act 3. Some of the toughest fights can end up being a joke thanks to Call Lightning.

Thunder

Thunder is a little less dangerous. Even though the Water tricks can make Cold or Lightning work better, Thunder can still hurt people without any extra work. You don’t have to worry too much about using it because it has less defense and immunity.

Just watch out when you cast the Silence spell.Since Thunder damage is based on sound, it can protect enemies from it. But not many enemies can use Silence, so be careful not to accidentally stop your own damage here.

Force

Use the last example, but make it even less biased. Force rarely works better than weakness, but you also don’t have to worry about people fighting back. Almost always, it’s the best thing to have.

Force damage is only dealt by a few strikes. The most famous of these is the Eldritch Blast. By the way, this cantrip can also be used to break down walls if your fighting characters don’t have the right tools for the job.

Radiant

Divine power is always a good way to deal damage, but it works especially well in the second act of the game. It can hurt a lot of zombies and dark beings in general, and you’ll have to worry about resistance or tolerance in a moment.

Most of the time, it works, which is great news for Druids, Clerics, and especially Paladins. They can Smite everyone without thinking about what will happen, other than losing spell slots.
